Celiacs and Achalasia?

Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone here has celiac disease and achalasia, or has read anything about a connection between the two? I know that celiac is associated with increased risk of esopageal cancer, and just found an article on PubMed from 1995 that seems to have found a connection between celiac and achalasia, but a google search for celiac and achalasia doesn't turn up all that much, so it's hard to tell.

Hi, I realize this is a late response. However, I am a person of the age of 20 who was diagnosed with Achalasia last year and reportedly suffered of its symptoms for 2 years before being diagnosed. I underwent a Hellur Myotomy for this rare disease and have since been diagnosed with Celiac. Doctors have claimed that I have been a Celiac for my whole life and because of this, Achalasia had formed. Once again, sorry for the late response. Hope this helps.

Is the Doctor saying that Celiac Disease brought on Achalasia? How and Why? Just wondering.

Hello I just came across this forum. I am 20 years old and was diagnosed with achalasia when I was 14 years old. I had two balloon dilutions and a Hellur Myotomy in 2013. Since the Hellur Myotomy I have been getting chest pain and also have been suffering from symptoms of Celiacs disease. I am waiting to see my specialist soon to get to the bottom of my symptoms. I try to eat a gluten free diet and this has helped although if I eat gluten free pastas or pizzas I have "episodes" so I'll probably stay away from that! I hope this bit of information helped!
