Family depression

Hello. I was just wondering if anyone else out there has a parent with depression. Especially a parent that doesn’t think anything is wrong with them, and refuses treatment. Should I be worried I will turn out like this parent if I seem to show signs of the same illness now? The difference is, I care about my happiness and am willing to admit I have a problem. I am taking medication, but I still see personality similarities with this witch and that scares me.

My dad is also depressed, ever since he got back from Vietam. He also is now an alcoholic because of it. Because of him I have depression, only becasue it’s hard to deal with him. It’s hard but if you fight it hard it can’t affect you. You can’t let it affect you, because if it does affect you it can hurt someone around you. FIGHT IT! for your sake.

My Dad as well is a Vet Nam vet… As a kid I always remember him being very angry…angry at the world…now I understand it to be some form of depression or PTSD…my heartbreaks for what those people saw and had to do…it is a tough situation because that generation lived silently with those issues…how sad…JennVelzy
