Heller's Myotomy

Hi!
I’m fairly new to the group but just wanted to jump right in and ask a few questions pertaining to the Heller’s Myotomy(lapr.): What is the recovery time? How much pain is involved with the recovery process? Did it work well for you? Were you placed on a strict diet of certain foods? If so, what? For how long?..just tell me about. I’m going for a consultation this upcoming Monday but I wanted to hear from all who have already went through it first. I’m so nervous!

thanks in advance,
Dracona

Askl me in about two weeks. I am having preops this week and surgery the next. They seem to be in a hurry to get my surgery done. I have never had major surgery so it will be a new experience for me

What is a peg tube?

hi

new to this site
i have achalasia and have a peg tube
been seing a specialist for 3 to 4 years and they say surgery wont help
now seeing a new specialist in sep

I had the lapr heller on aug 19, i spent 2 days in the hospital and was back at work 2 weeks later. i ate liquids for two weeks, soups mostly but i could have ice cream and stuff like the hospital gave me a list, then for two weeks i ate softer but more solid food and now i’m almost eating everything normal. i still can’t do steak or chicken or anything that’s thick. i have to chew really well so i’m still slow but otherwise it is great. ii had a couple of doses of pain meds in the hos while i was on the iv but nothing once i came home. they prescribed liquid meds but i didn’t feel the pain was that great i was mostly just sore.

My husband just had the Heller Myotomy this past Monday (Oc 27th). He had it at the Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. The surgery lasted about 3 hours. He had food stuck at the esophageal/stomach intersection. He was in the normal great deal of post surgical pain immediately following the surgery. He was given the usualy pain meds. He sat up that evening to pee. The next day I took him home (one hour trip). He was pretty drugged up and not remembering the ride home. He was able to walk far enough to gt in and out of car and to the door to his “chair”. Now it’s day 6 and we tried some soft foods. Maybe we pushed the soft foods too soon as he experienced somethng similar to reflux…not sure yet though …might be gas…The DR told him liquid diet for 2 weks but the discharge info said he could start soft foods today. (day 6)…Will let you know when I know more…He is taking oxycodone at this time for pain…less now that the pain is less…
