A Benny is the nickname for tourists who flood into the Jersey Shore in the summer – as opposed to people who live there all year round
WELL I AM FROM THE BRONX AND I LOVE NJ. NOT A BENNY SO YOU SEEM TO CALL US LOL. WE MOVED HERE CAUSE NY WAS TOO CROWDED. LOVE THE SHORE IN NJ. WATER IS 2 BLOCKS FROM MY HOME. I LIKE IT AND NO NOT A BENNY . GREAT PLACE TO LIVE. COME AND JOIN US.
Okay, that explains it! We all have our nicknames for the “tourists” in our area. Traffic and congestions. Dreen, stay off of that Gunnison Beach!
Oooo, Gunnison Beach. Haven’t been there in years – I sunburn easily. LOL
NEVER HEARD OF OF IT LOL. GUESS I AM OUT OF THE LOOP. LOL
LIKE WHERE I LIVE. THEY JUST REDID BOTH PIERS AND BEAUTIFUL SO IF BENNY IS WHAT I AM LOL NOT. I REALLY LIKE IT HERE. WE HAVE OLD HUGE HOUSES. 3 FLOORS AND BESUTIFUL SO I AM LUCKY AND I LOVE THE SUMMER HERE IN KEYPORT NJ.
Dreen – Gunnison Beach is the nude beach in Liberty National Park (or whatever it’s called) at Sandy Hook.
OH WE ALWAYS CALL IT THE NUDE BEACH,. LOL NEVER BEEN THERE LOL. AMAZING HOW YOU KNOW THAT LOL.
LIKE I SAID THE NUDE BEACH LOL
My last trip back east, I saw some sights on Gunnison Beach that were ingaved upon my mind that I will never forget…and I am telling ya, they were NOT pretty!
I HAVE NEVER BEEN THERE. WON’T EVER BE THERE. BUT I CAN IMAGINE. ALL THE YEARS I HAVE BEEN HER I WOULD NEVER GO THERE. BUT I CAN IMAGINE THE SITES THERE.
that i’m still here to enjoy it?
Dreen – the Asbury Park Press tends to have at least one article per summer on the “Bennies”. LOL
As to the nude beach and its sites (sights?) – it’s just people of all kinds sitting on the beach – young, old, families, couples, large groups, small groups etc. Or the brave ones go into the water. Personally I don’t go into any ocean where the visibility in the water is three inches – never know what’s underneath the surface. At least that’s how it used to be about 20 years ago.
BEEN LIVING HERE SINCE I WAS 12 AND THIS IS THE FIRST I HAVE HEARD OF BENNIES LOL. I DON’T GO IN THE WATER AT SANDY HOOK. IT IS MUCH NICER THEN 20 YEARS AGO. I LIKE TO HANG ON THE BEACH. THEY BUILT A OUTDOOR RESTAURANT/BAR. THEY HAVE FESTIVALS AND MUSIC ALL THE TIME. I KNOW ALL ABOUT THE NUDE BEACH BUT I NEVER WENT.
The is a best thing…that your still here to enjoy it. I think we should all be thankful for that!
Very true
THIS IS SO TRUE BON SO TRUE.
I don’t know about Bennies and nude beaches but, in downtown Detroit, we have the Ethnic Festivals in Hart Plaza. Every weekend, a different ethnic group will entertain there. There will be food available to purchase that is native to that particular country and music. It attracts all kinds. It was so much better years ago, however. There would be, Mexican/Latino, Slavic, Medditerrian, Middle Eastern, Carribean, you name it. Now, although there are not too many groups represented, it is still a nice place to go in summer.
THAT IS REALLY NICE. NEVER HEARD OF BENNYS TILL CHECQUERS MENTIONED IT LOL. WE HAVE KIND OF THE SAME THING BUT NOT AS BIG AS WHAT YOU HAVE. NOT ALL CULTURES. WE HAVE ALOT OF JAZZ FESTIVALS. THAT SOUNDS SO NICE.
I like the sounds of all the different ethnic things going on, they have some similar things downtown L.A. I like going to those when it isn’t too hot outside in the summer!
I like the smells of all the different types of food cooking when they have festivals!
