Sorry Punky, didn’t mean to preach at you. please, PLEASE don’t be offended, I would never want that!

my pdoc didn’t like starting 2 new meds at the same time. If you do, you can’t tell which is working, whick is not. You also can’t tell which one is causing the serious side effects. Perhaps each alone woujld be OK, but it’s the combo that’s causing the problem.

Perhaps any prior meds you took have not had time to completely clear out of your body/brain. Sometimes they can be our of your “body” but are still affecting your brain’s function. In that case, adding new stuff could cause additional problems.

Maybe your doc can give you a 'script for something to help with the side effects until your body adjusts.

You are so right about the two medications thing, and I had not thought of that… at my next appointment, we’ll be having a discussion about waiting periods between medications AND only starting one at a time.

I HAVE BEEN TAKING ZANEX FOR AWHILE NOW. MY BODY HAS A VERY HIGH TOLERENCE TO MEDICATION SO I NEED MORE THEN THE AVERAGE PERSON. I AM SUPPOSED TO TAKE 1.0 3 TIMES A DAY. IT WORKS FOR AWHILE BUT THEN MY BODY GETS USE TO IT SO I ONLY TAKE WHEN NECESSARY. IT WORKS BETTER FOR ME IF I DON’T TAKE IT EVERYDAY. YOU TALKED ABOUT STOMACH ISSUES. I GET UP AT 5AM SOMETIMES EARLIER IF MY DOG SANTANA NEEDS TO GO OUT . ONLY ON THE WEEKENDS I WILL GET UP EARLIER THEN 5AM BECAUSE I KNOW I CAN GO BACK TO BED. SOMETIMES I WILL TAKE A ZANEX TO HELP ME FALL BACK TO SLEEP AND WHEN I WAKE UP I HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF A STOMACH IRRITATION BUT ONLY IN THE AM. I KNOW IT’S WEIRD BUT IT HAPPENS EVERYTIME I TAKE AND GO BACK TO SLEEP. AS FAR AS ADDICTION IT CAN BE. DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE OF IT. EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. YOU JUST HAVE TO SEE HOW YOU ARE GOING TO FEEL. I HOPE IT ALL WORKS OUT FOR YOU. IT’S HARD I KNOW. TAKE CARE.

Finally saw the doctor today - he doubled my Trileptal and told me I should take Xanax every 8 hours regardless.

IF THAT IS WHAT THE DR ORDERED THEN FOLLOW IT. I ONLY TAKE THE XANEX WHEN NEEDED. IT DOES HELP. I NEVER HEARD OF THE OTHER MEDICATION YOU ARE ON. I AM ON ZOLOFT AND THAT BASICALLY IS ALL I KNOW. I HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER. I KNOW THE XANEX WILL HELP.

Does anyone know if there are serious risks / issues with being unable to take Trileptal for three days? My psychiatrist does not have samples, and I simply do not have the money to refill my medication until Thursday afternoon. I took my last Trileptal yesterday morning. There’s nothing else I can do… I think it will be okay, but wondered if anyone had side effects / withdrawals? Thanks.

The best person to ask that is probably your doctor. You could also ask your pharmacist – they really know a lot about these meds.

Perhaps the pharmacist will “advance” you enough for 3 or 4 days . Then when you can, you can get the remainder, and pay for the whole thing. Does this make sense? There’s nothing illegal or anything about this. Nothing on the prescription says you must get ALL the pills at the same time.

Hey, it’s worth a try.

This is one reason why it pays to see the same pharmacist all the time, and develop a good relationship. Someone who knows you is more likely to help out when you’re in a tight spot.

Hell, the pharmacists and technicians call me by name when i get to the counter. The only question is “how many today?” Guess that’s what happens when you have 8 prescriptions to keep up on!

Hey Seesaw - you are going to laugh, but I never even thought of asking my pharmacist… I don’t have a real close relationship with them (there’s about three at the store I go to), but they are very kind, and they might just do that.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious to me, as sometimes that is what escapes me most :slight_smile:

I read somewhere about the “advance idea” But my pharm does that for me if i need the refill NOW and they don’t have enough to fill the script. So they give me what they have, and the rest later.
