Is Acute Pancreatitis something that sticks with a person the rest of their life, and something that they will have to live with and monitor, or does it eventually become nonexistent? Just Curious!

It depends on the cause and history of the acute pancreatitis. If there are multiple acute attacks then it can turn into chronic pancreatitis just by way of the damage on the pancreas and the related continuation of the attacks. Acute attacks though can be caused by infection, gallstones, alcohol abuse, trauma, medications, etc. So if this is the cause then the attacks would remain acute because one the cause is solved then the will no longer be present. The other thing I will mention is that Hereditary Pancreatitis can also be present without any symptoms or attacks in a person, I wish that was my case, anyways there has been some stories of a person having HP and not having attacks for their entire lives and then one day having one and so they were diagnosed with acute pancreatitis when really they had HP which of course is in the chronic classification. Hope this helps.

I have a 9 year old that was told for 3 1/2 years that he had ap and ened up with HP. I also carry the gene however at 35 years old never had an attack.
I was diagnosed with AP in January and although my enzyme levels are normalized i still get some discomfort eating and when i take deep breaths. Has anyone else out there had similar experiences?
Thanks-Jay
I too have experienced what you describe. The pain comes and goes. It seems worse in the morning. Do you find that as well? I am confused about the following and maybe someone out there can clarify for me: I am 58,female, and the doctors just discovered that I was born with an abnormal Pancreas. Seems I have two openings instead of one. Surgery does not seem to be an option and I am not clear as to why not to fix the problem. Like most of us, it came on suddenly and I have been experiencing the pain, highs and lows off and on since the onset (December 07). My gastro told me there is no special diet but my online research seems to indicate a low fat diet. Input, please! Hey, after my attack, I found I craved junk food carbs like Cheetos. Anyone else have this experience?
Thanks,
Harslp
