AML caused by chemo from previous cancer

I was diagnosed with AML in February 2008. I feel quite certain that it is a direct result of the chemotherapy that was used to treat my previous cancer- GBM. I have gone through 3 rounds of chemotherapy here. I am in remission and am scheduled for a stem cell transplant in June. Have you or a loved one had a similar experience?

My daughter who is 26 was diagnosed with AML in May 08. The doctors told her it was caused by the chemo she received in Fall 06 for a benign brain tumor.

Wow, I am sorry to hear that. Where is she now in terms of treatment of AML?
Teresa

She goes in the Hospital for her third round of Chemo on Monday. It is usually three weeks b4 she can come home. My understanding is they will have to keep doing Chemo until a suitable bone marrow donor is found. Are you in remission?

Hi,
I was diagnosed in February so I am a few months ahead of her in my treatment plan. I did go in for the three rounds of chemo in my hometown while the search was on for my donor. I was found to be in remission after my first round but they still did the next two rounds as is the normal course of action. Lucky for me a donor was found and as I write this to you I am in the hospital at the University of Washington having just received my stem cells on the 23rd of this month.

Wow Teresa. How are you feeling? Tiff was told she will feel really bad. I
hope you are resting and get better quickly. Maybe you and Tiff could "chat"
She is taking the laptop with her to the hospital tomorrow.

Hi Jenny,
I am feeling as well as can be expected. It’s true that Tiff will have to go through a lot of pain to get beyond all of this but I’m sure that she will come out the victor!
I would be happy to chat with her via email as I am able. She can also visit my website at www.caringbridge.org/wa/gbmsurvivorhttp://www.caringbridge.org/wa/gbmsurvivor and read my blogs to get a feel for what is in store.
