Excuse my language! I was just wondering if anybody does this?? So you know my history, I have had an eating disorder of sorts since my teens. Hidden food addiction I guess you would call it. I have been “thin” from not eating to “heavy” from binging. Well after 4 pregnencies and busy life I weighed 225 a month ago even with the issues of “acute recurrent pancreatitis”. I have lost 15 lbs this month but even when nauseous I crave food. Sometimes I can’t believe it myself, that I want to eat. Over the weekend I ate fattening, knowing I was gonna regret it. At the time I thought it was worth it. Sounds sick, I know. So does anybody ever pain and anti nausea med up and then eat something bad???
I am a nut!
Keri
Good heavens, we are all a bunch of raging lunatics! Great to hear that others had the “urge” even when the pain is at it’s greatest. And, yes, I used to say WTF and eat anyway (then proceed to dry heave/vomit for the rest of the day).
Let’s all keep laughing as they say laughing is the best medicine:)

Keri, you sound like me, often after the break through pain meds i get so
hungry, i think it is the meds, not sure, but yes i am also like that. i
contribute alot of it to “comfort” eating, my weight is up and down just
like yours, drs say i am lucky to have extra as many people do not as you
can tell from this site and they seem to have many more problems keeping
weight up. that in itself with CP is another burden for them, but yes i
crave the BAD foods also, interesting to see what others post on this! hang
in there
Julie
Keri,
You are NOT a nut; you’re just crazy! LOL Now, what is happening with
you is just the same as what happens with all of us CP people. No
matter what, we want “normalcy” in our lives. We crave the “good old
days” before CP. How we want things to be normal could be food,
activity, work, you name it. In your case, food is your "normalcy"
thing. I can’t blame you or judge you, or bitch at you for doing it at
all. Such a craving for normalcy is so hard to not to try to get at
times as this disease is so overwhelming. So, don’t kick yourself in
the butt for this; just know that you definitely will do this at times
and you are willing to partake in the consequences. That "little bit"
of normalcy may just be what you need to maintain your sense of self
worth, humor, whatever as this is such a deprecating disease. Take
care, OK? You are in my heart.
Anyse
You are not “sick” or a nut, unless I am too!
Sometimes I try to rationalize to my self…“I’m hurting all the time anyway, whats the point of eating what I am supposed to if I am still having pain, I might as well have that burger and fries” Some times I pay for it and sometimes I don’t. And yes, I do take an extra pain pill and extra enzymes when I splurge.
And I constantly have that, stomach is upset, yet I am hungary feeling… I hate it!
Sometime I think If I didn’t have to eat to stay alive, I’d never eat again.
Hope everyone has a pain free evening
Cindy
Yep, I'm a nut too, some days you just have to be. If you can't enjoy life then why bother. I take extra Imodium and enzymes sometimes I'm ok and other times I think I'll never eat again. I often crave bad (salty, sugary and fatty) food when I'm beginning to have a flare up. I have a stent in now and it's working well... too well... I'm getting careless about food again. But I know that there will probably be a day when I can't eat the foods that I want again. Last time it was nothing but clear liquids for 6 months. For me my major weakness is salid, I was a vegitarian for 10 years and I always crave raw veggies, yet I can be ok one day with them and then other times I'll spend several days runnung faster than a race horse to the bathroom (those are the days I swear never again).
But, be carefull. Only you know your body best and know what it can tollerate. Best wishes for a pain free day and dreams of sugarplum faries!!! Patti
My weakness is pizza. I only do it about every two to three months, but I miss so much else. Before I was diagnosed, I used to cook all kinds of things- I love cooking. I used to make homemade Alfredo sauces, Newberg sauce, etc… It seems that many of us have a desire for salty or sweet foods. As far as I know, these are not no-nos- just the fatty foods. Cindy Lou mentioned the mixture of pain/hunger feeling. I get that often and I take it as a “moderate” flare-up. It often happens two to three hours after I have eaten. It’s an intense feeling of hunger, like back in my broke days when I would go two days or so without food. Heh, of course going two or more days without food or at least no more than crackers is something that we are all used to now. I am not sure, but for the first time in 20 years, I might forego making my homemade eggnog. I actually separate the yolks and whites. It has three layers- the whites whipped with sugar, the yolks mixed with milk, sugar and the alcohol, and then a cream layer that is whipped until it is firm. Fold the layers together and sprinkle with nutmeg and cinnamon… Ah well… lol
oh warren, just make the egg nog, it is Christmas !!! lol!!! it sounds
soooo good ! i am sick now and did not eat anything i shouldn’t, when i get
like this after being so careful i think crap i should just have eaten
something good, at least i would know why, but that self infliction thing
sucks to bad !!!
Wow, I am so glad I am not the only one. I expected to get flamed, hehe! I am so disappointed with myself when I eat too much or too fatty, But in a way, like Anyse said, it is my “normal” I guess. I read all these post and I could have written most of them because these are my feelings, too. It feels so comforting to belong to a group that “gets it” Thank you for taking in newbies like me, sharing very personal experiences, and making me feel like I have always been here. I do really need this site and am so glad I found it!
Thank you from my heart!
have a pain free and blessed day.
Keri
I read this forum daily, but simply have to put my two cents in here! I have type II Diabetes and ICP with attacks of acute CP.
I do not seem to suffer with the constant pain that, unfortunately, so many of you wonderful people do. But when it’s time for the hospital
"it ain’t pretty". Before an attack I have always had these severe hunger pangs and have worried that some of my over eating in the past was trying to satiate these. I was raised in New Orleans with a true love of food and eating and having to do without all of my favorites is very painful
in itself. Anyway, a few months ago, after being hospital free (for a record 18 mos.) I was extremely stressed and there was a street wide
BBQ going on close to where I live. The smell was driving me nuts and I seriously considered taking a bottle of Pancreatin, chucking it all
and going to get just one pulled pork BBQ sandwich. I didn’t, but I could actually taste it and it made my “stomach” hurt. The next day
I had the attack. I have joked that just the thought of it could do this, but I have been told by my doctor that I am not crazy as it actually could.
My question is: Has anyone else experienced this or do attacks accompany high stress for any of you?
My prayers are with you all.

OMG… I have done this so many times!
Back when my pancreatitis was reaccuring/acute, just the smell of food cooking would literaly cause me pain. My kids were young at the time, and I would hide in the bedroom with the door and vents closed while my hubby cooked them dinner.
I also remember my very first trip to the ER with severe nausea and pain… Hubby had the radio on and a commercial was playing for some resteraunt…talking about succulent ribs, juicy burgers…ect, I screamed at Donnie to turn the radio OFF…just hearing and imagining the food caused me more nausea and pain.
Any one else ever have this happen?
Take care
Cindy

Hi,
My daughter’s GI specialist told her that even watching commercials with food can activate an attack. The brain sends signals out and can make the stomach react. He told her that the cells from and around the pancreas can cause pain, not just the pancreas itself.
Terri
from what my doctors have told me, that is very true, they say to even think
or smell food the pancrease activates, when i have been in the hospital they
shut the door to my room at meal times so the smell is not so strong !
I have a particular weakness for pizza too!! Love it.
Luckily, I was never the chef in the kitchen some of you mentioned to be - so all I have to do is stop myself from ordering it!
