Anyone around?/meds

Just checking if anyone from this group is around since there are never any posts. I’ve had IBS for 17 years but just recently have had a really bad bout with it. I have IBS-D. The bout started last May and hasn’t stopped since. I hadn’t been to a GI doc since I first got it 17 years ago, but I started seeing in July hoping to find a med that would work. I’ve gone thru 5 meds and still nothing has worked. I’ve also tried fiber and I’m currently trying Digestive Advantage. If anyone has any suggestions I’d love to hear them.

Sorry I don’t think there’s any meds that I’ve heard of working. I was on a regiment of fiber and Activia yogurt, and only got worse. When I ran out I realized it was the fiber making me worse, it was awful… so go figure! Pat

Thanks and Have a great day!

I have had IBS for at least 15 years. I have gone thru many medicines & some
work for awhile & others dont work at all. I also have colitis.

I take Asacol (which works a few months & quits) & Levsin. The Levsin has
always worked to control the diarrhea after it has started. Sometimes it helps
to control it before it starts. I started out taking one tablet (.125 mg)
then over the years have increased the dosage (thru my GI Dr). Now I take 3
tablets 4 times daily. It still only works at times but seems to be the best
medicine for me.

I wish you luck in finding a medication that will work for you. Keep us
informed?

Hugs, Patricia

Hi,

I have had IBS for nearly all my life. The things I can’t eat seem to be
the healthy things, like salads, veggies, etc. That’s a bummer. But
what’s worse is that I have developed diverticulosis and had a
diverticulitis attack in October and it was horrible.

Oh well.

Nancy

You need to go through a battery of tests, including,
Lower GI, Upper GI, brain scan, colonoscopy, … .
Probably should have done after the first couple of
weeks, when Lomotil or such drugs didn’t stop it. I
would be interested in what they find out. No
insurance? Go to the Emergency Room.

It could take a week in the hospital, starting with
broth to jello to light soup to heavy soup, etc…
Hopefully you have had your feces checked as well.
