Bumped lipoma and went away?

I had a golfball sized lipoma on my right elbow. It was very noticible. About 1 week ago I took a tumble and fell. I had my arms out and caught myself with my elbows. My right elbow caught most of the brunt of the fall and was very sore. This morning when I woke up I couldn’t see the lump anymore. It is now down to the size of a quarter and is flat. What do you suppose happened and why couldn’t the others be extracted with a needle?

My guess is it ruptured and broke up into many smaller ones. I hope they don’t grow!

Hi cstgsd…that is strange. Our lipomas are compressed of lymph and blood so maybe the fall put enough pressure on the lump to force the lymph out. Since lymph is continually produced it will probably come back or another one will pop up near it. I hope you are feeling better now. Most of our lipomas are attatched to others in a string or have infiltrated other tissue like muscle so it is hard to pull one out. Hope this helps. Hugs, Grandma Sylvia

I too think it was a ganglion given the way it reacted to a hard knock. These may be part of the “Dercum’s effects” as I have a small one on my left index finger.Anyone else have one?

I remember they used to call these Bible Cysts. The real name is Ganglion Cyst. They used to treat them by smacking them with a Bible or other large heavy book. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganglion_cyst

I wonder if that one was different from your normal Lipomas as I've tried countless times over the years to smack one of my lipomas into submission with no success... ;)

My best treatment is to have them surgically removed. No I don't like being cut on, and no I don't like the scars, but it does give me great relief when I have a number of them removed at once. I've had around 300 removed to date and am constantly creating more. I now try to remove them before they get as big as a golf ball due to ease of removal, smaller scar, and not having to live with the side effects of the bump for as long a time.

Good luck everyone in your struggle. With a positive outlook and good doctors, we can get through this. I do realize neither are easy to come by some times.
