Can we stop now, please?

I am completely confused. My STBX husband is a DIAGNOSED NARCISSIST. He suffered a TBI 7 years ago, and probably had strong but masked narcissistic traits prior to his accident. The head injury made them surge to the forefront, at least that’s what the professionals tell me.

I joined this group to learn more about NPD and escaping it. I wanted to carry on email discussions with other people…to have those “lightbulb moments” when you discuss the situation with someone who is familiar with it and say, “AH HA! That’s it!”

Truthfully, I didn’t want links to articles about NPD. I’ve read a bunch. I also know a heck of a lot about TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury), but that’s neither here nor there.

I came here to interact with others and LEARN coping strategies from real people.

I am disappointed that this has turned into a lot of arguing and fighting and competition of an odd sort.

I respectfully ask that those who are arguing take their fight private, instead of posting their remarks on the email server for all to read.

NPD is confusing and difficult to cope with. This was supposed to be a place for answers…or at least a safe place to explore options.

Please stop.

jen,

if you’re up to it, I’d be interested in hearing where “you’re at” today, what feelings and thoughts youre processing right now on your particular path.

I THINK MOST HAVE US HAVE DISAPPEARED UNTIL THIS ALL GETS
RESOLVED… OR MOVES ON…

Jen, you represent some of my earlier points that frontal head damage could leave a person with a narcissitic personality.

I do not know if there are any yahoo boards for TBI but I do know there are a few on frontal lobe dementia (FTD). They consist of people living, caring for people they love, trying to cope and maintain their own sanity. Some have children issues, some are dealing with aging parents. Depending on the lobes involved, different aspects can be affected so some there deal with only left lobe involvement where it is primarily speech and aphasia problems, but not personality. Some deal with memory issues. Others deal with right lobe damage and NPD traits. Some deal with two or all. The yahoo FTD dementia board is very supportive, constructive, educational. They tend to follow each other as far as emotionally dealing with the issues as opposed to psychologists who they have found lacking. They tend to follow the neurologists for facts and medical care. I would suggest it.

Susiejo,

Thanks so much for your suggestions. I am knee-deep in TBI groups and speak nationwide on the subject of Mild TBI and the impact on families. In my ongoing effort to learn more, I have branched out to NPD/BPD groups.

My divorce will be final soon, but the NPD behavior will continue to impact my children, who are under the age of 10.
