Chemotherapy

how can I best support my husband during chemotherapy

One of the best resources related to Esophageal Cancer can be found at EC CAFE — http://www.eccafe.org.

How can you best support your husband through chemo — ask him, best source ever. I probably became pesky for my beloved as I asked often if there was anything I could do or get or help with. Sometimes he said he was fine, but there were a few times had I not asked he probably would not have asked me to do something … just how those crazy men folk are sometimes. But, truly, talk-talk-talk lots.

My husband has gone through 2 sessions of chemo. I know how you feel, you feel helpless. Basically for us, it was jus being here for him. We did find out that Emmend is a drug to take for nausea, and it really helped. You can try to encourage him to drink fluids, I know they said that was important. My husband is a little stubborn, so sometimes he didn’t like me insisiting that he drink more. Right now he is on a break, hope it continues. Good luck with your husband.

Learn there are times that he will just want to curl up in a ball in bed and
sometimes when just lying next to him stroking his forehead will be greatly
appreciated. Of course get ready for the taste aversions he may get and the
repeated grocery store runs you will be doing. If possible when he expresses
a craving for some food try it. Make a nice sanctuary in your yard with a
chaise in the shade and some pretty potted flowers for him if you can. My
husband loved being able to walk the few steps and sit in the cooler parts of
the day and smell the flowers. He loved his small sanctuary where no one could
make loud noises or disturb him unless he rang the bell for one of us. Good
luck and I’m sure you’ll make a great caretaker for him.
