Current status after childhood treatment

I was diagnosed with Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease at around 6 years old went through various treatments with Shriners including a cast for 1 year with a bar between legs. My brother diagnosed at same time but more advanced received no treatment and is currently diabled with extreme pain at times/back problems due to dofferent lengths in legs and othe problems. I have had a pretty lucky time with it until the last 5 years (I’m 44) I have had increasing bouts with pain, almost like every nerve in my thigh an legg firing at once and a very numb almost dead fealing in the muscle in the middle of my thigh…anyone else out ther with these problems any suggestion, doctors sometimes recognize the disease but are not very understanding of the pain…any ideas would be appreciated. his isn’t ending in a question but I hope I made my inquiry clear.

Hello!

I was very glad to read your post today. I’m hoping more adults who had LCPD in childhood respond.

I was diagnosed at 5 1/2 years. LCPD affected my right hip.

My most annoying problem has been lower back issues. I have very little cartlidge between the vertebrae in my lower back. My doctor feels it is in part due to LCPD (that my right leg was shorter for many years) and complicated by the fact that I’m short and have a more pronounced curve to my lower back than most people. Either way, it is a daily “thing” to keep my spine in alignment so I don’t have pinched nerves and numbness in my hands.

Recently, I’ve been having pain in my right leg when I fly or am on a long car trip. Bruises on my right leg seem to take longer to heal. I’ve got some spider veins I am unhappy with and would like to have removed. Lately when I walk long distances I’ve felt like I had a pulled muscle in my calf. Thinking back on my adult life, I almost always put my right foot on the dashboard when I’m in the car. I think even though I’ve only been aware of the pain the last few years, I’ve never been comfortable sitting for long periods of time.

I’m curious if you have experienced any slow to heal bruises or spider veins?

After two years of complaining of pain to my doctor they did an x-ray and I am happy to report I have no signs of arthritis. The ball is smooth and round and spacing of my bones right to left was even. I did not, however, receive a referral to a vascular specialist so I decided to pay for it myself. The specialist believes I have a varicose vein deep in my leg. I am having an ultrasound tomorrow and will report the results back here when I have them.

I truly hope other adults who were treated as children will volunteer their experience.
