My son is 7yr old and was diagnosed with HD at 6 wks old he had emergency ostomy placement and a pull through by 9 mth old. We battle everyday with his diarrhea. The doctors keep telling me that it will get better with time. I need any advice I can get to help him.
My 6 months old has been on Imodium since his operation 2 months ago. It generaly works well, but he still has some bad days. We also took away the breast milk as it was too easy to digest.
Our GI suggested a low sugar high fiber diet for HD diarrhea. I would eliminate dairy and sugar. Foods like bananas are more constipating and may help to thicken his poop. The GI also suggested probiotics. As long as he doesn’t have diarrhea from constipation I would try and thicken it up using different foods.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice I will try it. We just got back from getting IV fluids for dehydration. So I will try it as soon as he is back on his feet.
I just had to reply again when I saw that you are from Lufkin. I lived in Nacogodoches for about a year while my husband was finishing up his degree at SFA. We are in DFW now (we grew up here) but my husband would pack up and move back there in a heartbeat!
We are from Texas too… We live in Pearland which is very near to Houston.
Hi, i have had HD since i was born and i’m now 17.
I’m taking loperimide (imodium) to try and control the diorrheoa, but i’ve been taking it for so long i feel it has no benefit to me at all. I can take anything between 2-10 a day and i still can’t see a difference.
I had a severe case of HD, where as my cousin had a less serious case and also takes loperimide and it works well for her and she rarely has a problem anymore and she is now 14.
I think its dependant on the case, your child may be lucky and hopefully imodium tablets will work!
