Does anyone know if anyone has died from DD? The way some of them are so big and pressing on important body parts makes me wonder…When I was getting an ultrasound of the heart the technician could feel them all over the place. I also have so many near my thyroid, ears, jaw and skull. The rheumatologist said they are all just lipomas. : )
Sylvia, it is very, very rare to die of DD, but it has happened. DD can kill you if it involves a vital organ like the heart. I don’t worry about it. We all have to die of something, but it is extremely unlikely it will be Dercum’s.

Sylvia:
Although “rare” (in other words they haven’t kept track), per all the research I’ve done on this disease, it is possible to die from DD if it spreads to your internal organs. I know I have some “nodules” in my lungs and near my heart. But we don’t know if they are DD or not. I think they way they look at it is you died from a “symptom” of DD but not DD itself. Same as MS patients.
