My 8 year old daughter is in the process of being diagnosed with DI. I believe shes had it since birth, but she being my first and only child, I didn’t realize anything was amiss. She drinks and pees up a storm, she has always had incredibly dry skin and shes got bedwetting issues. Plus reading online stuff I’ve recalled that she used to fuss and cry alot for no reason when she was a baby.
DI runs in her father’s family, he has it, one of his brother’s, his dad, his aunt and one of his grandparents had it too. They call it ‘drinking diabetes’. I have no idea if they take medication or what their stories are. I have asked, but not received any reply.
We’ve been blown off by three doctors who probably thought I was a paranoid mother. We’ve finally found a doctor who has taken us seriously and has referred Nicole to a Paediatrician and an Endocrinologist.
I’m glad we’re finally going to get a diagnosis. Does anyone know of a DI support group in New Zealand?
