I’m going for a consult with a Dr. Tracey Weigel at the Universtiy of Wisconsin-Madison. She’s had over 10 years experience with laparoscopic heller myotomys, over 20 years of heller myotomys, and several robotic lap heller myotomy’s. I was referred to her from a Dr. Ferguson from the University of Chicago-Illinois. has anyone on the boards heard from either of the two? At any rate, I’ll let you know how the consult goes next week.

Never heard of the name over on the yahoo achalasia board.You must have specialist so d o you research as you are and dont stop till you get a well known specialist.FYI- My sons DR was Dr Rice at Cleveland Clinic and he has done over 300 lap sugeries for achalasia!

In this case the Yahoo group is a much better resource. Under databases there is a list of doctors. There are 2 at UW Madison.
UW Health UW Medical Foundation, Meriter Hospital, Madison WI Dr. Susan Toth General Surgery. Also Vascular and Peripheral Vascular surgeon 608-287-2100 Myotomy with Nissen Fundiplication Had done 10-20 myotomies as of 4/02. My GI doc said she had the best hands for lap surgery in the region.

I would say check the Yahoo group. There are also several lists of questions to ask at your consultation. I think Tonia, I and several others contributed to that document and it would help you know what questions to ask this doctor.
Go to http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/achalasia/ and click on files. the one on questions to ask your doctor is near the bottom. There is a wealth of other stuff there too.
thanks a ton guys!! I had my consult and it went well, I feel more comfortable meeting Dr. Weigel face-to-face and getting an insight into her history and skill level. I got for my pre-op on April 1oth, and set to do surgery April 16th. Wish me luck!!
