Failed IVF

I just recently went through a failed IVF. Just wondering if anyone has went through the same thing.

Hi Cheryl,
My husband and I had a failed IVF cycle in September and we are about to start our 2nd IVF with BCP’s starting in January with ER and ET pobably in early March. It’s definately a topic I can discuss.

Hi Cheryl,

My fertility doc was surprised when our IVF failed aswell. Our problem seems to be my dh. He has sperm issues. Low count, motility and morphology. After the failed IVF (3 out of 10 eggs fertilized and we had 2 placed then did a frozen transfer with the last one a month later which also didn’t take) the only thing he said was that my endometrium didn’t get as thick as he would have liked. If it’s not thick enough the ebryos can’t implant. So this IVF round which also starts at the end of January my RE will put me on Vitamin E and Viagra. (They both promote blood flow to the uterus).
Do you have PCOS? I have only heard of people taking Glucophage when they have PCOS. My opinion is to trust your RE. My dh and I feel we have a wonderful doctor and trust him completely so far (a little disappointed with him a couple of months ago of course, but here we go again!)
What is your protocol for you IVF cycle?
Kelly

I don’t have PCOS but my Doctor said that he puts women on Glucophage because he said that it helps the embryo quality. I had 11 eggs retrieved & 9 fertilized which was really good. They transferred 3. They froze 4. My doc said my lining was good, he thinks the embryos may have been abnormal. We are actually thinking about doing Pre-genetic testing. I am only 36 but I think it may help. My insurance doesn’t cover anything with infertility and the PGD is $5000.00 on top of everything else. My doc is keeping the same protocol as last time, I take the BCP & baby aspirin. Then the Lupron, then Follistim, HCG & then my husband & I will be on Doxycycline. After the retrieval, I take a steroid & estrogen along with Progesterone shots. It is a lot but at least I know what to expect.

Hi Cheryl,
We haven’t done PGD testing but one of the girls in another group I am in, did. The cost was high but they did it and the next IVF cycle they got pregnant. She just found out two days ago. She recommended the web site pgdtesting.com. It has a lot of good info.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like we are going to be doing this round around the same time. I start my Lupron Thursday. My retrieveral & transfer will be the same as you. What meds are you going to be taking?

Hey a cycle buddy!! That’s kind of great.
I am taking the BCP, a Materna vitamin, 1mg of Folic Acid, 500mg of Vitamin C, 800iu of Vitamin E and an 81mg aspirin. I am in suppression now, which is an injection of Suprefact every night @ 9 o’clock. I go for bloodwork and an ultrasound on Thurs, Feb 22nd to make sure my ovaries are completely shut down, if they are then on Sat, Feb 24th I start my stimulation injections which will be Puregon and Repronex. I will also be on Viagra!! The first time around by endometrium only got to 6mm during the fresh cycle and 7mm for the frozen cycle. Ideally it should be over 8mm so this time around my RE put me on Viagra and Vitamin E. I am also going to acupuncture twice a week to help with stress (work related - my boss drives me nuts!!) and to help with blood flow to my uterus.
During my injections I will of course be going for ultrasounds and bloodwork to see how many follicles are being produced. When they’re ready I will give myself the HCG injection 36 hours before ER which should be around the middle of March. Then Progesterone, Medrol and Doxycycline.
So, so far everything is going fine, the only thing I dislike about the BCP is that I spot continuously on them. My RE say it is fine so it is just annoying.
Did you do a frozen cycle with the four you stored?
Why does your RE think the embryos were abnormal?

Accupuncture does work…i did not get pregnant but it thickens the wall of the uterius and gives you a better chance…the wall was ultra thick (18 something??) whatever that means but my doctor loved it…
still did not help me getting pregnant but i have read a lot on men taking creatine for suppliments with working out and that does not help the sperm…which he took and i am thinking i may not have been the problem…i have four kids and had them without trying…anyway, acc. is expensive but i recommend it…

Good luck too…you have to be going crazy and it helps to know someone else did…i would cry and walk around in this helpless state…i cant even think of anything that helps except i was nuts on the drugs and my body took over and although it was natural, it was also unnatural…and made me miserable which is also unnatural…just try hard to relax and find strength that you are doing all of this…all for love, really…and life…and that is all that you need to remember…you should feel very strong right now…i did not feel strong at that time but now i do…it opens your world to an experience that is vunerable and exciting and painful and emotional all at once…it is deeply giving, what you are doing right now…giving your body and your mind all at once…just give yourself credit…and relax…m

Good Luck…relax and just enjoy your time…seriously, relax…and dont be stressed since you can not have much control over any of it…ok?..the best think you can do is breathe…smile…m

Thanks, I am trying

Kelly, They retrieved 15 & 14 fertilized which I am thrilled with but I hope most of them make it. They are doing the PGD on them so I am having a Day 5 transfer but like I said hopefully some of them make it & are good. Good luck on Saturday & I am also thinking of you. Let me know how it goes.

Cheryl

Kelly, How was your retrieval? I had my transfer on Saturday. They transferred 3 normal embies.

I am having PMS symptoms & I am hoping this is from the progesterone & Femtrace?

Do you know?

Hi Cheryl,
I’m glad your transfer went well. My retrieval was on Sunday and it went well except when my left ovary had moved up “near my ribcage” and after diggibg around up there the pain was so intense that my heart rate went from 72 to 45 and my blood pressure dropped off the scale. But after an emergency shot of atropine I was fine. Kinda scary!! They retrieved 12 eggs, 11 fertilized and 8 have become embryos. My transfer is today and we will find out how they are doing. We plan on transferring 2 back.
As for your symptoms, as soon as they put me on Estrogen and Progesterone I get PMS symptoms but after the transfer they are going to be “pregnancy symptoms”. So wishing you the most positive thoughts and the mot positive pregnancy test!!
Kelly

Hi Kelly,  I wish the same for you.  Keep me posted.
