Fluid restriction

HELLO, YES I AM ON A FLUID RESTRICTION DIET?? WHY AREN;T THE REST ON ONE? THE DOC TOLD ME ONLY SO MANY FLUIDS A DAY AND HAVE TO WATCH WITH THE DDAVP

ive had CDI all my life and never have i been told i need to restrict my fluids,if youre not taking the ddavp you have to drink or you will be dehydrated very quickly!! if you are on it
then you shouldnt be that thirsty.do you have any other medical problems?maybe if you do that is why the restrictions.

Hi,

I’ve been reading your posts with interest (I’m 56 too! - when’s your birthday - mine’s Dec.), but I’m afraid much of the information you’ve been given does NOT relate to DI.

Unfortunately i haven’t had time to give a detailed post, but hope to do so today. I’ve had CDI since I was 12.

The vast majority of the medical advice you are being given is because

  1. You have heart disease - for which fluid retention is DANGEROUS
  2. this is compounded by your weight
  3. this is compounded by having DI, which involves fluid balance.

for most of us, the couple of kilo variations in our fluid weight are TRIVIAL.

for you, a couple of kilo variation in your fluid weight are DANGEROUS.

I’ve also had adrenal problems, having one removed just over a year ago due to a tumor over producing sodium (to a massive level) so learnt a lot about all of this (including the connection with potassium and sodium) along the way. The diagnosis was a long, torturous process, with lots of differering opinions between the specialists, which forced me to do my own reseach so I knew what the hell they were talking about.

Hope to post later today.

Cheers, Maureen.
