Have I got Achalasia?

I am a 49 year old male and have experienced some difficulty eating meals for a number of years. 4 years ago my GP sent me for a Barium Swallow which came out normal so he sent me to a specialist who diagnosed ‘Early Achalasia’. He told me to avoid meals that I had difficulty eating and to monitor the situation. Now although I am very slightly worse I don’t suffer nearly as much as most people I read about on this forum. I can still eat small meals provided they don’t contain much meat and my stomach is not too full. I don’t regurgitate food, my only ‘vomiting’ in when food gets stuck and I have to vomit out what is in my gullet. This happens around two to four times a week. I have noticed that any stress seems to make it worse and I also suffer from a lot of wind in my stomach. Usually when food gets stuck it feels as though my stomach is full of wind (for some reason).

Do you think I actually have Achalasia or could it be something else? I think I may have had this condition to a lesser extent all my life as I wouldn’t eat when I was a kid.

Thanks,

Ross.
