HD : Why always in the UK?

I have my google News set to find articles about HD and they are few and far between, but it seems like 90% are non U.S. The UK seems ok in writing articles about HD, but I hardly see anything from the U.S.

I wonder why that is?

The good thing is these articles make me feel so blessed, My son’s have had a much easier time of it then others have. (one article was from scottland I think and the little boy had a feeding tube and his little sister died b/c of HD)

now these are newpaper articles, not medical papers, just stories of every day people, I find it interesting.

ok, I sent a friend’s request w/ my addy

There is another web site called Hirschsprungs_Support_Network , there is a lady on there that just wrote a book on Hirschsprungs. It’s called Hirschsprungs Disease- Solving the Puzzle. She is just having it published. She was just asking how mant people were intrested in purchasing one. They will run $34.99 plus shipping. All proceeds go to John Hoppkins for further research on HD. If any one is intrested.

I’ve often wondered the same thing. I think I read that races other than caucasian tend to have fewer cases of HD. Since it is a genetic disease I wonder if it is more common in people of European descent? Interesting…

and I often wonder what they mean by 1-5000 babies born w/ HD… is that world wide? or is the U.S.

my grandson is in the hospital at the moment in uk just had his pull-thru yesterday we were told one in 5000 in the world born every year but were told this week one in 3000

Here is the message if any one wants it.

Hi all - Good suggestion John, Can I have everyone e-mail one more time so that I can get a count of everyone who wants to buy a copy of Hirschsprung’s Disease - Solving the Puzzle? This will help me know how many I need to order on Monday (I’m thinking 50 or so to start).

Thanks so much!

Nicole

Hi, we werw told by our Surgeon a few months back that HD is more commonly found in caucasian european descendents. In our case, my husband is 100% German so it made sense.

ohhh, ok I see. That is interesting, I don’t think I had ever heard that, but now that I look at this board and at the faces that have shared their pics, it does seem to be the case here to.
