Hydrocephalus and Chronic Pain

My name is Laura and I suffer from hydrocephalus and chronic headaches. I have a VP Shunt to treat the hydrocephalus but the severe headaches are still there. The shunt was last revised in January and they tried a third Vent which failed.

I am currently taking Topamax and Neurotin. Also taking Cymbalta for depression and pain and Eliville before bed.

My neurosugern gives me Peracet pain medication but it isn’t doing any good. They will not try anything else for the pain and it gets really bad then I get depressed and want to hurt myself.

I just want them to find something to fix my headaches. I do not care if it is a different shunt or trying diffferent pain meds what ever works but right now they are doing nothing. and I cannot go out of state to see a doctor because I get medicaid and they usually will not take it.

hi there laura. i was wondering if you could tell me exactly what hydrocephalus is, and where it comes from, and what do they do to treat it.i do get migraines myself, along with chronic back pain and siatic nerve trouble. but i do have a friend,right now she is undiagnosed, but her problems sound like yours. she had surgery a few years back on her neck,and they did put a metal plate in. but for about the last six months, something is very wrong. she gets these horrible headaches, she also gets swelling on her face, and her eyes even swell shut at times, and puss runs out. is that what happens with your condition?ive been begging her to go see a specialist, but i cant seem to get thru.she waits untill its so bad, shes vomiting, then goes to the emergency room. i am worried, because i know theres something wrong.when i read your post, i thought, maybe thats what my friend could possibly have. i mean, there cant be many conditions that make your eyes swelled shut when you have a headache, can there.she also told me she is having alot of vision problems, and is not alloud to drive a car anymore.if you can tell me more about this, please do, or if anyone else knows of other problems it may be, please let me know too, thanks.
