I was dignosed in July with PV and my dr wants to add hydroxyurea. (I am currently on 1 baby asprin a day.) My platelet counts have been around 600-800 in the last month.
What are the side effects and what dosage have you been taking?

I WAS ON HYDROXYUREA FOR ABOUT THREE YEARS, AND I BECAME ALLERGIC TO IT.
I DEVELOPED A RASH ON MY LEGS( SHIN AREA,) THEN IT TURNED INTO ULCERS, I THOUGHT MY LEGS WERE GOING TO FALL OFF. THEN MY DOCTOR PUT ME ON ANAGRELIDE, I HAVE BEEN ON IT FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS, AND HAVE GOTTEN ALONG MUCH BETTER. I TAKE TWO A DAY. PUG
Hey Kris, I am on hydroxy urea for platelates as well. The negative ramifications of using HU are not known (it is still being watched). I myself hate being on some gene altering drug so I’m trying to lower my counts with tea. I will see sooon if the tea is working. I’m not sure yet, I need another blood test to see…
