Hi, I have hypothyroidism. Does anyone else have weight issues because of this ?
I have Hashimoto’s and have trouble with regulating my thyroid.
6 months ago I took a radioactive iodine pill and since then, my life has changed so much. I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in the fall of 2006. My doctor encouraged me to go with the nuclear medicine. I was confident, because he seemed confident. Its been a roller coaster ride ever since. Sometimes I feel like I am going crazy and other times I feel like a stranger in my own skin. I know I have to be patient until I get my TSH level under control, but its been 6 months and while the level is dropping, I was originally told it would take 6 weeks. So now I have concerns about the future.
I have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and would like to find others that have similar conditions.

I have been dealing with hypothyroidism for about 20 years and have trouble finding doctors that deal with and recognize the syptoms. Would like to know that I’m not alone with feeling crazy and out of sync
because my mom was recently diagnosed with this condition and is going through a tough time
As I put in my Intro, am a 53 year old grandmother who was totally surprised when last month my doctor told me I had Hypothyroidism.
I have asthma so I am on a variety of things for that and attributed what now turns out to be the Hypothyroidism to that or my Asthma meds.
I am now on a daily dose of 50 mcg of Levothyroxine and the stuff is making me feel just awful. This is just the first month so will it get better? Is there anything to be done for this daily nausea and gastrointestinal distress?
Help, help.

I want to connect with other people who have Hashimoto’s disease.
7 years ago I was diagnosed with Hashimotos Thyroiditis and more recently a multinodular goiter, I have all the symptoms of hypothyroidism, fatique, forgetfulness, headaches of unknown origin, excess weight that I cannot get off and depression. However, none of my primary care Drs. have wanted to treat this disorder as my TSH levels are borderline. Should I take it on myself and go see a Endocrinologist?
Hello, I have just been diagnosed with Hyperthyroid. I have been experiencing symptoms for about 6 weeks now like-13 lb weight loss, shaking in hands and legs constantly, not sleeping, rapid heart rate, hotter than normal, clammy, always hungry, muscle soreness, etc. I am a mess!
My Doc first put me an AD and something for sleep, I recently(Apr) went through a life changing devastation and he thought it might be anxiety or depression, since the symptoms are so alike. He did bloodwork just to be sure. And I thought it was my thyroid because of online research. I am taking a beta-blocker that seems to be helping with the shakes and heartrate. I am waiting to have nuclear scan on 28th & 29th. I hate taking meds, never have in my life. Now I take 3 a day. It sucks, it’s messing with my stomache. Which was the only thing that didn’t hurt before.
Anyway, I would appreciate anyone who has been going through this for a longer period of time to fill me in on how and if it gets better. Thanks.
Mandy
I have been living with hasimoto’s disease for about 3 years now. I have been taking levoxyl daily since my diagnosis. Over the past month I have been going into a tailspin, achy, painful joints, total exhaustion, so so tired. and my depth perception seems to be off and well as my cognitive ability? My IBS is really flaring up too. I’m having a new ultra sound (thyroid) and blood work tomorrow to see if my medication needs to be changed. Is this common do others feel this way or am I nuts??? Please send comments.
Thanks
I recently was diagnosised with hypothyroidism, I need all the advice I can get. The doctors put me on synthyroid. Can anyone help?
Hello, everyone.
I wanted to introduce myself as well as inform you of something I had to learn the hard way.
I spent a year and a half slowly gaining weight AFTER I finally lost it all when the docs diagnosed me and started me on thyroid meds.
I started gaining a little here and a little there, every month telling my doctor there was no good reason for it. Although he rechecked my TSH levels, adjusted my medication and tried his best to figure out what was going wrong, he didn’t know what else to do for me.
He finally sent me 100 miles away to see a specialist and when I got there, the answer was so easy, so simple. I was taking Levothyroxine (Synthroid) in the morning with the rest of my Fibromyalgia meds.
They told me that by doing so it was the same as taking only half my dose (or less).
You must take your thyroid medication at least 2 hours before any other medications!
I gained nearly 60 lbs I didn’t have to all because neither my doctor, nor my pharmacy, knew enough to tell me to take this medication by itself. I’ve been seeing the same doctor and using the same
pharmacy all along, so you’d think at least one of them would have known better, but YOU are the one it comes down to!
My husband told me that I should have read the flyer that came with the medication, but those things don’t take into consideration other medications. It may tell you not to take a certain medication if you are also, for example, using a stop-smoking patch because it, too, has an ingredient both share, but it doesn’t know how many other medications you may be taking or how you take these medications.
Ask questions, tell your medical team about your concerns with your meds and look them up on the internet if you’re not satisfied. Ultimately, you are responsible for what you take and how you take it, even if none of us should have to be.
After all, that’s why we pay them all the big bucks, right? LOL LOL
Hope this helps somebody.
If I’ve saved even one person from going through what I went through, I’ll be a happy camper!
Hello all,
I was diagnosed with hyper in high school, and my parents decided to have me undergo the radiation treatment, having been reassured that i would simply just have to take a pill every day and I would be back to normal.
Unfortunatly, I now weigh 80 pounds more, I sleep terribly, I am physically exhausted, I am struggling with hirusitism, I rarely am able to focus on anything and I find my normally outgoing self sitting at home, too depressed to go out anymore.
I am scheduled to meet with a specialist in two weeks, and I’d love to know if anyone has any advice for what I should know before I go… I am determined to get everything and do everything I need to overcome this disease.
Thanks for any help!

hi, im jennifer, 30 years old,a couple of weeks ago i went in to see my dr because i had a refill on my antidepressant medication and he took some bloodwork as well. Theresults came back and last week I found out I had hypothyroidism. My tsh was 52 so my dr started me on 75mcg of synthroid. I also just got an ultrasound and am awaiting the results of it. I think I may of been subclinical for years, but never diagnosed. I had my son 3 years ago and while i was pregnant i guess they tested me and didnt have it then according to them. My mom has hypo also but she’s never been that high and she only takes 25 mcg. I sure hope it kicks in soon because I’m tired of being like this and everyone saying that I’m a hypochondriac.
what was your begining tsh levels? what did you start out with for medication?I have to go back to the dr on 12/14 to get more bloodwork and probably get a higher dose ofsynthroid, he just wanted to start me off a little slow. generally is there a amt of medication you take based upon your tsh? it seems like its awfully high, over 10 times of what normal is.
ive been researching stuff online for the last week and it seems like people get better results when they have t3 and t4. If anyone has any insight about it, I’d love to hear it. How long will it take for my tsh to get to a normal range?
