I'm new here!

Hi all! I’m 30 years old and my doctor believes I have RA. My pain seems to be getting worse as the days go by. A few days or maybe a week or two will go by and I feel fine, after a while, it starts all over again. When I mentioned my problem to my doctor, I told him that I have pain in both my legs. He prescribed Mobic for the time being and told me to see if that would help. I had to call him because the Mobic was making my head hurt so he scheduled for me to come back in. He tested me for RA and the results were negative. He told me to come back in about 3 months because sometimes it takes a little while before it actually shows up. He changed my meds and put me on Ibuprofen (600MG) 3x’s a day. That’s a lot of medicine to me!!

I’m supposed to go back next month but my pain was so bad tonight I almost went to the hospital. The only reason I didn’t go was because they were probably going to just give me more pain medicine. I would like to know how you all are coping. DO you have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hello Hon ~ Sorry you are in so much pain ~ Do you have any other medical problems that you are aware of ? ~ the pain in the legs could be linked to something else other than RA ~ but I know I felt like I had the flu ~ legs hurt ~ feet hurt ~ hurt to walk ~ Sometimes the blood work is false ~ positive ~ Dont hesitate to go see an Rhumetologist ~ they are the specialist ~ and tell him about the pains ~ he knows what he is looking for ~ probably do a physical and blood work ~ if you suspect this is RA~ could be a combination ~ as many of us have RA/Fibromyalgia/some have diabetes ~ so RA can show up in all kinds of situations ~

Just know we are here to help ~ your not going through this alone ~ And most of all, we UNDERSTAND !

~huge hug~

Yes the first time my doctor did the blood work it came back negative. He told me that sometimes it can take a few months to show up. So I’m supposed to go back next month for more blood work. I feel ok today though. THANK GOD!

Hi. Sorry you are feeling so poorly. I agree that RA can show up alongside so many other medical problems, especially those associated with the immune system. I have thyroid problems (Graves, Hoshimoto (?) and now this so definitely see a rheumatologist. Remember, you know your body and how you feel best so if the first doesn’t bring satisfaction of your symptoms and some alleviation, seek a second opinion. That’s what I had to do – my first rheumy was very blase and non-committal to treatment. My numbers kept going up but she just blew it all off and she was considered an expert in the field - even teaches at a local University hospital in Philadelphia. But for me she just kept dancing around the white elephant in the room. I talked to a couple of friends and one of them has RA (I didn’t even know) and she recommended me to a wonderful rheumy she goes to. He is very knowledgeable and compassionate. He told me that not everyone that has RA has +bw for the factor - they call it seronegative RA. It usually over time develops but he didn’t want to wait and put me on meds right away. Although we’re still on a journey with the meds I feel alot better and have a great working relationship with him – he listens and makes adjustments and recommendations based on my input – very important. So don’t give up and don’t believe the lie that doctor’s know more about how you feel than you do. Hang tough and keep seeking an answer. My prayer for you is that you find a great rheumy like mine, someone who cares more about you and your welfare than some scorecard of symptoms. Be well - Cynthia
