BRossington…Maybe you do have both. I think many of us have all the fibro symptoms of: irritable bowel syndrome, dry eyes and mouth, depression, lack of energy, morning tiredness, and of course the pain trigger spots they always make a big deal out of. But, I’ll tell you DD is much worse. Hugs, Grandma Sylvia
let me try to phrase this properly (brand new here, and found here while having depression and pains…)
Does Lyrica help Dercum’s Disease?
Or does it only help Fibromyalgia?
has anyone tried Lyrica for DD and had it not work?
when I did have it, it took away 95% of the pain… I could hold my girlfriend again, for instance.
I hope I said something close to what I meant at least…
(I can’t figure out how to start a new thread… )
I am in the UK so dont have that medication you tried, there is nothing you can take that will clear DD or Fibro, you merely help with the pain and the depression. Even surgery isnt 100% guaranteed. To write a new topic, go to the ‘return to the forum’ then click on ‘ask a question’
ah, thanks geordilass… ask a question means start a thread…
Benjamen, most of us have both DD and fibro. There is one study that concludes they are the same disease at different stages. DD produces nerve pain, and very few pain killers are designed to help with that. Lyrica and Neurontin probably come the closest. I don’t take pain meds since I drive a school bus, but I am reaching a point where I am going to have to quit soon.
Hugs,
Pamela
That’s our plan… just leave it alone and hope it goes back up. My husbands retirement may be pushed up some more if this keeps up. He wanted to retire in a few years but now he may have to keep working. AND the place he works may be shutting down in a few years. It looks kind of bleak for us and many others I am sure.
Pamela (and all)… I wonder if DD is recognized as a debilitating disease by the government… I wonder if anyone with DD receives disability benefits. I am a housewife, but if I had a job I would have lost it by now.
LOL Grandma Sylvia - I DID marry the first guy who asked, haha --didn’t last of course!
OH I AGREE about the future discovery of DD – as soon as they can cash in on it with a drug it will be recognized by all (and there will be commercials like the ones for restless leg syndrome - that problem popped up out of no where when they had a drug to sell for it)
We do have stocks and my husband was so depressed yesterday. We lost over 100 thousand. I hugged him and reminded him that we live one day at a time. The situation still stinks though!!!
You are right Suri,
Attorneys usually are working for a percentage of the back pay, so it is best to file on your own and then get an attorney once you are denied.
Pamela
DD is not recognized as a debilitating disease by the US government. I understnad it is in Austrailia and a few other countries though. There have been some conferences trying to make it easier for those of us with rare diseases to get SSD though. Yes, I know quite a few on disability, but most of them had multiple conditions. Believe it or not, you are far more likely to get disability for depression.
Hugs,
Pamela
I was under the impression that the individual issues that make DD
could get benefits?
Depression, mood swings, loss of livelihood (spell?), incapacitation
sporadically, unable to stand for 20 minutes, unable to sit, etc.
Been thinking about getting a lawyer… If nothing else, free
consultation…
Ideas?
Oh yes, I think it is easier to get of you put the emphasis on the individual issues. I can’t even stand for 5 minutes anymore, but I’m afraid to stop working and file. Several have just been approved, but it took them 52 and 54 months to get it, and they were in incredibly bad shape with this disease. I have saved tons of posts with wonderful advice in them about this subject. If you will write me privately and give me your email address, I’ll forward the info I have collected to you. It’s alot! (one of the posters is a former attorney, and really knows what he is talking about, although he can’t give legal advice and alway puts a disclaimer in his messages)
Hugs and spoons,
Pamela
I don’t think you need to get a lawyer right off the bat. I think you just have to apply and have a doctor that backs up your disability (or disabilities). I also think it best to focus on the individual problems and not call it dercums (if it isn’t recognized by the government then it probably isn’t a good idea to use that term)
I know a woman on disability simply for depression… maybe just having a psychiatrist who will back you up is enough.
Suri, Yikes! that’s alot of money to lose! Any chance he can just leave things alone and wait for the stocks you own to go back up? This mess can’t last forever! I’m not even looking at my retirement plan statement this time. Just putting my head in the sand and hoping it gets better.
Hugs and spoons,
Pamela
Yes, it is affecting me too. I am a school bus driver, but also have a second job as a Notary Signing Agent. I mainly help clients with refinances and home equity loans. Not much work now and I don’t know how I’ll make it on the 5 hours I get driving.
Hugs,
pamela
I am trying to get disability on the DD alone but it was turned down…They
said I can still work…I am fighting it but now I have more problems so it isnt
just DD anymore…
I hired an attorney for my ssi. I was told that it would be better if I have one file my papers and push things through for me other than trying to fight them myselves. I have one and they of course denied it at the local level. I have had the diagnose of anixiety and depression disorder long before all of this. Along with that I have cluster migraines and fibromyalgia. My attny thinks that I won’t have any issues but then again they said some will pass right through and others with the same disease have hard times. good luck to anyone going through this.
I know of one case (SSD) that was not denied the first time, so it is possible. Maybe once in a blue moon they let someone get it the first time. It is worth a shot (in order to not have to pay an attorney).
I don’t know if this will be helpful, but it looks like you can get all the info about applying for disabilty here:
http://www.ssa.gov/applyfordisability
I’m sorry you are having such a hard time
((((Hugs))))
