Lumps in the jaw?

Does anyone else have lumps in their jaw??? I have been having alot of trouble with the ones in my jaw…I was wondering if DD could cause tooth enamel to weaken??? I have broken a few teeth and dont know what I did…

I’ve had TMJ problems since I was in Kindergarten, so I know it’s not only the DD causing my jaw problems. One side of my jaw is completely dislocated and the socket it is supposed to sit in is filled in with cartilage. Of course, the DD tumors are attacking that already traumatized area because that is what they do.

Amen to that…I have large ones above my eye that is causing it to droop shut…

The doctor that diagnosed my DD told me that the jaw, face and throat area are the most commonly affected areas for sufferers of DD.

Nadine

I had not heard that before. I have read that the trunk and arms are the most commonly affected areas, at least in the beginning. I have tumors literally everywhere now, including my jaw.

I have broken several teeth too, and have another cracked molar right now. I have heard several people mention that they have lost teeth to DD, but I don’t know if it caused a weakening of enamel or if the lumps just crowded out the roots. I suspect I grind my teeth at night because my TMJ disfunction is so severe. I do have some lumps in my jaw line though.

Well I had to ask Dr Herbst and she replied that that question is not on her questionaire but she replied …" However, DD may affect absorption (not yet proven) which could affect teeth."
I have been in alot of pain in my jaw (lower) from right in front of my ear…I thought I had TMJ disfunction but now I believe its DD…I feel like a sack of potatoes …

I’m a little late in responding but still wanted to put in my two cents. I have a strand of tumors in my jaw line. When I’m stressed they swell and cause a ringing in my ears or the one that is directly under my jaw in the center (under lips) does the most horrible thing ever. If I yawn with my mouth closed it will tighten into a charlie horse and bulges out so far and becomes this cramp that takes a minute or more to subside. It literally takes me down to my knees crying and I drop whatever I have in my hands and immediately place them on the charlie horse in under my jaw trying to message the cramp out while crying. I cant even talk because my jaw will lock up. Its excrutiating pain. Thank god it only happens every 3 months or so. But when it does, it’s the worse pain I’ve ever felt. I have lumps in my throat (on each side of my throat) and one in my forehead too.

Have a Smiley Day…Love, Pam

Hi

As far as everything I have read about DD says that the face and jaw are usually spared.

I have a few in my jaw line and one on my lip and a few on my face. But I am 60 and the rest of my body is covered with lipomas. The ones on my jaw and face came last. It would be nice if it left our face alone!

I have some very painfull ones in my jaw. When I use direct pressure on them they get sore but then seem a little better for a while. I broke two teeth. I broke the tip off my eye tooth and another tooth in two. My dentist asked me what I was doing. This was before I knew that I had DD. I also get “charley horses” in my jaw where it locks. I also have them in my eye ridges in my skull. I worry about if they can create pressure on my brain. My mother died of a brain tumor.

I found a couple of lumps in my neck the other day. My PCP verified them today. (I’m always kind of paranoid about the lumps I can’t see - I can’t always find them right away again so I get worried that maybe they weren’t really there. If you’ve read “My Story,” you’ll know that I have been given a hard time about having “real” lumps.)

I have vowed that if I have obvious lumps on my face or neck, they’re coming off! I’ve put up with serious weight gain (100 lbs n the past 3-4 years) tumors the size of melons on both legs, a soe rump, aching back (tumors near my spinal column, pressing on nerves, of course) and arms so full of tumors they can’t take my pulse or my bp in my left arm at all, and they have trouble in the right! But That’s IT! No ugly face or neck lumps. NO WAY!

OOOOh I was thinking last night I had a bad tooth but I came home and got in the hot shower and it went away so now I know its a lump forming…the only thing that makes them better is heat…I cant turn the hot water heater up more cuz I wont be able to afford it…And I havent gotten anything to relieve the burning feeling…

Hi E, ladymary here, hey I asked my dentist about the teeth too and he laughed mainly because he doesn’t know squat about DD. I have chipped or broken 3 teeth in the last year and the two bottom front teeth are losing enamel and are chipped. I am thinking it is DD as well. I had to have two crowns put on a cracked 4th tooth and next to it a cracked back tooth so that is a lot of dental decay in the last year when my DD has gotten worse. No jaw pain as yet and only when I’m done with the dental work because of my jaw being open so wide for so long. Hope I have helped you E, hugs to you, ladymary.

I now know its lipomas because I was treated for an abscessed tooth and it keeps coming and going so it has to be a lipoma…I have developed more around my eyes and nose…Especially under one of my eyes…The other eye its above it…

luckly i dont have lumps on my jaw. So cant help you there, sorry

Now I think the charley horses in my jaw that I had for years where my jaw locked open and my TMJ ached so bad are probably related to DD. The lipomas in my jaw and on my thyroid are very tender and swell but the big ones now forming in my fat cheeks are the worst. The one is so big it gives me a headache every day as it trails up to my eyebrow bone and around my ear and goes from my cheek to below.my jaw and it stings. I don’t know if I will be able to refrain from getting it off. The ENT doctor is waiting to see how big it gets and more would probably come. We can’t win!

Hello All,
My jaw has bother me for a long time not really sure when it started, I used to grind my teeth at night. I have recently started having growths in my jaw line. Especially on my right side not so much on the left, so I have a lopsided look to my already chubby cheeks!

Brennie

me too Brennie…Other family I have family members telling me they dont see any difference but I do…I can see that one eye is fatter than the other but at the same time the other eye looks like its in a race to catch up…I can see the difference in my face …I lose about a lb a month and thats slow but the Dr isnt too worried about how fast or slow it comes off…I know when I lose weight I am looking to having maybe more pain from the lipomas…we just cant win with this stuff…

It helps so much t know that you guys have lumps in your jaws also. I don’t know why it helps to know that others have what you have but it sure does! Mine below my jaw bone roll around when I touch them. My husband says to stop playing with them but I can’t! I have to feel how many there are and how big they are getting. It is like they are connected but still loose enough to move around. Do you guys know what I mean? The harder I press the more they kind of shoot pain… : (

I dont have lumps in my jaw, but i sure know what you mean. The one in my arm its the size of a hen’s egg rolls around when i play with it. I just started yesterday to have a ‘flare up’ so not doing to good today. over the last 24 hours i have slept for 18 of them. i knew something was wrong. when i woke this morning i couldnt even roll over the pains in my hip were excrusiating.

oh back to the painkillers.
