Our daughter is 28 years old, and in the past year after starting on an antidepressant (Prozac) developed muscle twitches in her arm, and then within a month seizure like episodes that were brief (30-60 seconds) that included facial spasms and tongue sticking out. After consulting several doctors, she had clonazapam added to control the “seizures” which did help, she went from 10-20 episodes a day to one or 2 per week.
This was all over about a 6 month period.
Then, about a month ago she became very bizarre in her thinking, delusions, halucinations, and she was hospitalized. They took her off of Prozac, thinking tht was the problem (possible neuroleptic malignant syndrome or serotonin toxisity). She was put on risperdal to control the psychosis, and that worked well for about 5 days, but then she had a dystonic reaction to the risperdal an ended up in the ER, where it was discontinued. Within a week the psychosis came back, and she is now into her 2nd week of hospitalization, with very little improvement.
ANY one have anything like this happen to their loved one with Williams syndrome? It is as if the real girl disappeared, and a whole new person and personallity is there, someone we do not know. …
