Im 50 and am going thru menopause so I dont know for sure that this is hot flashes but yesterday I planted a few pansies in my flower beds and you would have thought it was 100 degrees out by the way sweat was pouring off me…Does this happen to anyone else??? Then this morning my husnband went to hug me and I had to push his arm off of me cuz it was painful for him to even touch me…It seems like every day this is getting worse…I am so tired of all of the changes it has brought to my life…
Hi,
I have a problem with night sweats like you wouldn’t believe. I go to bed freezing and then wake up later soaked with sweat.
It’s hard for me to be hugged, the kids sitting on my lap, or Mats laying his arm over my while we’re sleeping. I can’t hardly take it.
Yes, to all of that. I’m 48 and have had a hysterectomy (3 years ago) So I’m in the same boat - menopause or Dercum’s.
When I do much of anything my face gets red hot, and my temperature climbs, sometimes as high as 104. I have to stop dead in my tracks at that point!
And my husband and I don’t sleep together anymore because it was so painful to have him touch me. Of course, that he broke his ankle into about a thousand pieces 4 years ago doesn’t help at all. Separate rooms are wonderful now. We have a terrific marriage, and he’s exceptionally supportive, but after 34 years, we have no need to prove anything!
I’m also having vision problems that my ophthalmologist can’t seem put his finger on. I have trouble focusing, my eye has developed a tendency to wobble at times, and my eyesight is deteriorating at a rapid rate. The symptoms don’t add up to anything he recognizes. I’m inclined to blame it on Dercum’s. Seems everything else is.
BTW - when I had my hysterectomy, the gyn couldn’t identify the soccer-ball sized masses he found. The pathologist just said it was a “fatty mass.” Hmmm.

I’m 42, so I haven’t started menopause yet, but sometimes I have this strange feeling where I can’t tell if the temperature is too warm or cool. Sometimes Mats comes home from work and wants to know why I don’t have the windows open and after he opens them, I don’t feel a big difference. I started checking the temperature online and opening the windows if too warm, so I didn’t roast the kids and I.
Other times my face will be red and hot. I just swear I have a temp, but when I check it, it’s normal.
Regarding “normal” temps. Mine tends to run very low - it’s been documented as low as 93, after a bit of activity. My doctors have agreed that anything over 96 is an elavated temp, and 99 is a fever for me. So when my temp gets to 104, I’m sick. (Well, sicker than normal! :-))
BTW, I got new glasses today - they help immensely. Also picked up my new wheeled walker with a seat. Brought it home before we realized it isn’t the right one. This one has a seat meant for some teeny old lady, not a butt that is tumor-infested! So they’re re-ordering the bigger one. This one took three weeks to arrive. It’d better come before I leave on my cruise or I’ll be ticked off!

My normal temperature runs lower, too. It’s not nearly as low as yours, Presby, as mine is 98. It’s not super low, but when I get to 98.6, I start feeling terrible.
How’s your thyroid function? Mine is low functioning, but the doctors don’t seem to want to mess with it, so I’ve just started working on it with supplements. I feel less foggy in the mornings.
I will be sitting and watching tv and break out into horrible sweats. It looks like someone dumped a glass of water on my head. I get that 20 times a day or so. Its embarrasing when I am out in public. I have been on thyroid medication for 15 years or so, mine is low. I had a hysterectomy 11 years ago and weaned off of hormones 3 years ago. I was fine for awhile until this crap started. My internist suggested black cohosh (herb for menapause) but it doesn’t work. My normal body temp. is 97.0 My blood pressure is 110/82. Unless I am having a spike attack then its been 210/110. YEAH that’s what I said. WOW
Hi Stonel,
Have you heard of Dong Quai or Blue Cohosh (milder than black cohosh)? They’ve been used historically to help woman. I also found some people were even helped by introducing kelp (for the iodine), even if their thyroid was fine. It stopped the unexplained sweating for them. Of course check with you doctor before trying anything new.
Oh, man, your high peaks are so high. I’ve only been close to that once while I had eclampsia. It sure can be scary.
Take care,
High BP must be a symptom too because I had fine BP until I started getting horribly sick in Dec 2005 and in January 2006 I was started on Linisopril…Gradually I have been weaned to a lesser dosage so its under control now.I wish it was that easy to control pain for us…My grandson doesnt realize he is hurting me sometimes by pushing on areas of my body and he is too young to know any better but it makes me cry none the less…It has rained for two whole days and its supposed to continue through tomorrow and the temp dropped 20 degrees from near 80 to in the 50s so its killing me…
I also wanted to know if anyone else has had their “lumps” swell up now and then??? Does it mean theey are growing or do they just swell???I have that problem alot on my ribs and in my foot…My ankles are now quite weak and I believe there are “lumps” in them too…And another question is has anyone developed a lioma where any injury occurred??? I bumped my shin about 3 weeks ago and now there is a good size lipoma there…
Hi Ejohnson,
I have a smaller one on the top of my left wrist right at the bend. When it’s hurting, it swells up and is easy to see. Right now it’s totally pain free and I can just barely feel it when I press around.
I haven’t really had any injuries since coming down with this. Just childbirth, but as far as I know, no problems there.
Hi All:
I too have a normal temp of 96, so anything over 98 is a fever for me. I have night sweats that are really weird in that sometimes just my legs sweat or just my head but they will be drenched like you’ve poured gallons of water (with a horrible odor) all over me, or just those body parts. It has to be the DD because my normal bp was about 70/60, now normal is 110/90 or so. When I’m in an exacerbation (when my lumps become inflammed or new ones are forming in a previous trauma site - even years after the trauma). DD is a strange disorder in that I have excellent blood flow to all extremities; however, my legs will swell to the point my skin has split around my ankles (have tons of tiny tumors there) and I have black spots on my legs and feet where the swelling has caused the area to die.
We all can probably go back to childhood and find things that could be related to DD. I’ve had a hysterectomy and I definitely know what hot flashes are from that and these sweats are not the same thing at all. They don’t feel the same and the odor isn’t the same. DD messes up all of our body systems. My doctor just referred me for bio-hormone therapy and they are suppose to check all of my hormones - like HGH, thyroid etc.
Hopefully this will help.

Today and yesterday have been horrible days for me…I believe I am getting a new one in my jaw…I have horrible pain and the Dr hasnt given me any pain meds yet…Wants me to come in and see him so Monday I am…yesterday I took 12 Aleve in a day to help and it didnt…I am out of Aleve so I only have aspirin for now…I am praying that Monday comes fast…
I just have to say I know you are in pain, but be careful with the Aleve! Those are Naproxin sodium and will eat your stomach lining very quickly. That can kill you. Believe me, I understand the pain. I can’t take any painkillers stronger than ibuprofen because of my job and also because of drug allergies.
Ibuprofen also can damage the stomach lining, so I limit my intake to the point of taking nothing most days. Aspirin isn’t any better for your stomach. Try hot packs or ice packs, whichever you find helps most. (ice works best on my trunk, and heat seems to help more on hands, arms, and lower legs.)
Very sage advice Pamela! I worried when I read that post about the 12
Aleve as well, but your wording is much better than mine would have been
if I had responded right away! Thanks for being on the spot with your
response.
OH YES! I do have the same problem! It seems I can’t get my body temperature regulated most of the time. Especially in the afternoon, my pain increases, I start to have chills REALLY bad, then I am burning up and sweating…I drive my husband nuts with the thermostat! I have Grave’s Disease and while I was hyper, it was the same way, so I have my thyroid yanked and now the DD is causing much the same! Some mornings I wake up and the sheets, my night clothes, everything is wet from sweat, so I guess it continues all night long! I have washed my sheets to death because of this! When I do get the least bit hot, my face turns blood red!

Im also experiencing a burning and aching in my left arm from the hand to the shoulder plus burning and tightness in the chest…Anyone else get this?? Im glad I have a DR appt tomorrow…I was worried that the ones in my chest were causing me to have a heart problem…
Yes, my left arm aches constantly, but there are visible lumps in my forearms and hands, so I know what causes it. I also suffer from GERD, so chest pain happens alot. You should get checked to make sure this isn’t from your heart though. It is best to be sure.

Hello Again.
I can barely use my left arm to type now it hurts and is weak from nodules up and down it. also up under arm and into breast. I am seeing my husbands Dr on the 1st as I fired last GP for yelling at me in front of people in her office and then cancelled appt for being 6 min late etc. They were not helpful at all. They told me if I didn’t like it to find another Dr. sooo I am. I am hoping this one will at least do a little research into this disease and try to help me. Hope springs eternal Ehh? Well, I am going to try to sleep now. Hope you feel better too.
Hugs
Davana
Oh yes, all the time! I’m 53 and post menopausal, but this sweating is from the DD. I wear summer clothes pretty much year round now.
My notmal temp is 96.4. I am on thyroid meds, but it has made no difference in my temp. How can we be be so cold and feel so hot?
