Pancreatic Cancer?

Hi

One of my closes friends called me last night to tell me she has to
have a biopsy done next week. She’s been having horrible abdominal
pain, hasn’t been able to eat any fats or oily foods. She was in the
ER last week and they were able to determine it is her pancreas.
They did a special MRI yesterday - something with a drink she had to
have. She spoke with her Doctor yesterday who didn’t want to call
her until he spoke with some other experts and from what she told me
they found spots on her pancreas, liver and kidney. I also believe
they found what she is calling a cyst. They want to do a laparoscopy
next week and have her swallow something - I"m assuming a camera.
She’s not very good at listening to the doctors so I’m getting half
information. She calls me to do research for her based on what she
gets from the doctors. She also has lupus which she doesn’t
acknowledge very often. I’ve been searching all over the place to
find something that tells me this isn’t cancer, but I can’t find any
hopeful news. Her grandmothers sister also passed of pancreatic
cancer 3 years ago - she did not tell the doctors this, it took me
being very firm with her to get her to tell them she had the lupus -
she didn’t think it was important for them to know.

I know she’s in denial - she has a 7 yr old son and a 9mth old son.
She’s very active and can’t sit still - when she was pregnant she had
preterm labor and was supposed to be on bed rest but couldn’t stay
in.

I’m hoping someone can give me some hope that this isn’t cancer.
Also, if it is I’d like to be lead in the right direction for
researching treatments - both medical and alternative.

Thanks
Kristen

Hopefully they caught it in early stages when my mom finally went to the dr she thought she had gall stones and was throwing up green bile …had she told us and maybe if we had listened she would have been here but hers by the time she went to the dr was in stage 4 and honey if thats the case there is No hope ,mom went in for test dec.18 surgery on the 22nd and died Jan.22nd good luck to ur friend and I hope she has a will if its not cancer great but with a 7 year old she truly needs one to designate who will care for the kids !!

Hi KayCe234,

Lupus can affect any organ. It is very important that she let her doctors
know about the existence of this disease. Not only that, if there is cancer,
therapy used to treat cancer could conceivably adversely affect her lupus.

‘Cysts’ on the liver, kidney and pancreas could be polycystic kidney disease.
She could have pancreatitis or gall bladder problems and I am sure there are other possibilities, as well.

You’ll just have to wait for the diagnostics to be peformed.
