I recently had surgery to remove the 5 cm pleomorphic sarcoma from my right thigh and soon I will be consulting with a radiation oncologist to start radiation. I would like to know what to expect. Will I get nauseated? Will I lose my hair? I would appreciate anybody who has experienced radiation therapy(external beam) to their leg/ extremities to respond. Thank you. gigi
Hi gigi-------------I have had radiation two different times in the past 12
years----------internal and like what you are going to
have-----------------each time I went 5 days a week for nearly 4
months----------I didn’t get nauseated or loose hair—it is not anything
like chmo. This was to my left arm----------had MFH 4 times in that
arm----------last surgery was in 2004 and also the readiation. It is really
no big deal--------it takes longer to go back and forth then it takes to do
it.
Take care--------Bob Chambers in Western North Carolina

thanks Bob, I wasn’t expecting a reply that soon. That eases my mind alot. The surgeon said he expected the radiation to be about 3-5 weeks. I’m already concerned about how I’m going to do the radiation and still get my 40 hours in at work. I guess I will jump that hurdle when I get to it.Gigi from west central illinois
thanks StanW, will do so. The more I know the easier this is for me. gigi
Well I don’t know how it will be for you-------but when I was going through
it----whit me I am 73 years old and retired so it was no
problem--------anyway the asked me what time I would like to be
there----------told them as early in the morning they could see
me----------my last treatments was 6:30 AM---------just ask them I am sure
they will work with you----------all the radiation tech. were really very
nice to me. I have over 20 MRI and I was really treated great-----------made
me special since most never heard of MFH-------------you will be ok
Bob
