hi everyone
i am new to this forum, actually this is the first time on any forum.
recently i have discovered my aging mother has the signs of narcissism. I’ve known for aLONG time that something was wrong but didn’t know exactly what. I am my parents only daughter. I’m 40 and not married , but i do have a life partner who is great and recently experienced an ex brother in law who was NARC. Both my older brothers who are married agree on the my mothers’s symptoms. She has almost all the signs. Is there books on how I can deal with my mother as she is NEVER SATISFIED and getting worse with health and aging.
I have always been the punching bag and go between. Now i’m TIRED. any recommends on literature?

I remember seeing a book at Barnes & Noble called “Children of Narcissists” or something like that. Go to http://www.bn.com and see what you find.

Let me ask all of you a question, how many of you are adult children of alcoholic parents? I am, are any of you?

I am bup, father, died when I was 15, was an abusive alcoholic, worked on that back in the middle 70’s bought the books, went to the adult children of alcoholics group meetings, went to see John Bradshaw, dysfunctional families, imagine how shocked I was to find out I was a “PEOPLE PLEASER,” I have been working on myself forever, I got all the books, wish I could have had the NPD news back in the 70’s life could have been alot better, but better late that never. my mom’s father was a severe alcoholic. my mom was not. but I was the parent to my mom. ugh.

My 25 year old daughter is an ACOA and has MANY, MANY PROBLEMS.I have read many books on this, and she has ALL the symptoms. My heart cries for her, day and night.

neither of my parents were alcoholics, but my mother’s father was.

raging alcoholics on the irish side of my family:

grandfather
father
2 aunts
uncle
5 out of 7 cousins

Basically almost the entire family. On the Italian side… no one to my knowledge is alcoholic, but many are co-dependent people pleasers (2 uncles, 1 aunt, 3 cousins)

I have been reprogrammed by my therapist to only please people who deserve it… It is amazing how it has transformed my life…
