Surgeries... Different kinds?

Hey to everyone,
how are you all doing? i hope everyone is having a good day with as little pain and nausea as possible. i am starting this discussion in hopes of hearing about some of the surgeries people have had. i had a peustow procedure done 3 years ago, in this surgery they fillet the pancreas and clear out calcifications and then they attach the pancreatic duct directly to the large intestine length wise to help with drainage. this surgery gave me 3 good years with no pain and no nausea… unfortunately i am sicker than ever now and i am wondering what kind of surgeries may be an option for me. my ct scan showed more calcifications in the pancreas and alot of scar tissue. has anyone had a surgery like mine? or had anything else that might help me? hope to talk soon
love and hugs

Steph,

Your experience is like so many others’ in that most procedues offer no guarantee that you will get well foreverever if you have them done. However, as with the Whipple and the roux-on-y (sp?), I have read many studies of outcomes and, to my surprise, the usually offer a 2-3 year respite and then the disease gets worse or it stops. In too many cases, after this “grace period” (mine was about 2 years), many are again faced with almost what they were experiencing before their surgery. So, basically, I have been seriously ill for about 10 years straight AFTER my Whipple 2 year grace period. Now, I am bedridden and am going into hospital about every 4-6 weeks for 4-11 days at a time.

I chose to have the Whipple because I was guaranteed that I was going to die without it and a slim chance to live if I had it. So “zero” cance to live vs. 1 in 10,000 was the only “choice” I was given. So, you can guess which one I took!
