Teeth!

My son Luke has ccd. We are trying to come up w/ a plan re: his teeth. His dentist has a small amount of exp. w/ ccd. We have been told that in Lukes case, it would be best to crown the 6 molars he has, as it is most likely that those will be all he’ll have and we’ll need to protect them. (some of the enamel has worn away.) Any advice?

Hello Shyra,

This is one area where the dentists really messed up with me and I’m still paying for their mistakes now! But fortunately I have a wonderful ortho for my son who has lots of experience and has other patients with the same condition. Have you been able to see a ortho or other specialist with your son? Do you live in Canada or the US?
How old is your son and what have the x-rays shown?

I am not sure your dentist does have experience with CCD. This is not the case at all. With CCD the child will have more teeth than it is needed and the call the extra teeth supernumeraries.

You child is still a little young to start treatment. Usually treatment begins around 8 to 10. Please write to me directly

I can share more. (I have CCD to and so do my children)

I would have never have thought of my child’s condition has a handicap- as thankfully she doesn’t suffer from the other symptoms significantly to have impacted her physical and academic development but I have spent thousands over the past 10 years on her teeth. I wish someone had suggested this to me. I am looking a another $4800 this spring break for exposures and extractions. My daugher is 19 and all but 6 primary teeth came up without assistance. We are almost at the end with a very well done teeth by Dr. Nick Z in Mashpee MA

My husband has CCD as well as all his siblings.

My husband is 39, and when he was in the 7th grade was when he had surger. He had the first round of surgery to remove the extra teeth that they could get to, and the second round of surgery was to open the gums because of the scar tissue and manually expose his permanent teeth and apply braces. I am not sure what experience his orthodontist had with CCD if any, but he was out of school for such a long time he had to repeat. I am not sure if this helps, but like the others say, I would make sure that you specialist has experience with this condition. I have found a wonderful dentist for my 2 year old that has experience and will help me find an orhodontist that has experience with this too.
