Test results

My wife recently received a negative result from a pap smear. She has undergone a biopsy procedure and we are awaiting results. My question to the group: Are there ever any non-cancerous causes that result in negative results from a pap smear??? She is sixty years old and in otherwise very good health. Any information on this subject would be appreciated. Thanks you.

Hello M.D.,

Have you posed this question to your wife’s gynocologist? Has your wife been
consistently bloated over a certain period of time?

I am 53 and was in almost perfect health prior to being diagnosed with
ovarian cancer in Feb of this year. I ignored my symptoms of continuous bloat,
fatigue and the occasional, somewhat minor that would crop up in my belly.
Because I’d rec’d good news on my paps and have been going through perimenopause, I
chalked the symptoms up to changing hormones.

I would think that a negative result on a pap could possibly indicate a
pre-cancerous condition, but would suggest you consult with a highly respected
FEMALE gynocologist with your question.

The best of luck to your wife, and I will pray for a benign condition result,

Jennifer

I think I may have misstated the results of her pap test. The actual wording was “abnormal results” which I interpreted as negative. Stating it this way, does abnormal always mean cancer???

Thanks for replying…

Again, have you asked her gynocologist this question? If you’re getting
non-communication or the runaround from this person, seek a second opinion of the
test results. Probably a good idea to do that anyway. Compile a list of
questions, and don’t feel foolish to ask; this is your wife and her health, and
you deserve answers.

If a biopsy of the tissue was done, that should be definitive either way.

Please keep in touch as to what she finds out. I’ve been through the medical
’quagmire’, but have also learned a lot about what to do. I can also
recommend dietary and other lifestyle changes, whether the news be good or not so.
I’d be happy to help in any way possible.

Again, I will pray that all turns out just fine with your wife. What is her
name so I can personalize the prayer?

Jennifer
