Hi Valerie
Not yet. I have a list of reputable employment law practices I’m contacting
now. I am 56 years old, and I worked for state government for over 30
years. I retired to take a job in the private sector in January of this
year. If you can believe it, I’m an HR Director by trade. I’ve never had a
problem with odor until I changed employers. The stress from this job
coupled with a severe hormone imbalance must have triggered it. I just got
my results from University of Colorado this past week.
I was treated like a leper at work. I could only come in when nobody was
there and had to work from home during the month of April. My boss told me
I could only come back if the “issue” was resolved. The humiliation was
almost unbearable, and I was actually afraid to go back into that
environment. He would stop at my door and smell. I have been in
counseling, and that has helped, and I see an endocrinologist with a TMAU
patient next month. I am actually freelancing at the moment with a
long-term assignment beginning June 4th. I am scared to death it will
happen again. Thanks for being so responsive. I will call you. Are you an
attorney? TMAU is such a rarity that it’s difficult to discuss with most
people.
Kathi

Subject: Re: [trimethylaminuria] TMAU as a disability
Hi Kathi,
I did get a disability and am positive for TMAU. I didn’t use a lawyer either. My therapist wrote it up and had to use an anxiety disorder as a diagnosis. Secondary would be TMAU because that in itself doesn’t fit their criteria. It was a no brainer and went right through.
The problem you may have is having enough quarters for social security. You said you worked for the government? Then you may have had a different retirement than SS. Not sure how it works if you didn’t pay into social security though.
