Dr. Marco Patti is an internationally known gastrointestinal surgeon who specializes in the treatment of esophageal cancer, achalasia and acid reflux disease. His research focuses on disorders of the esophagus and the outcomes of minimally invasive surgery for these disorders. His research has contributed to the development of treatments for many diseases, particularly acid reflux disease and achalasia, which causes difficulty swallowing.

Born in Catania, Italy, Patti earned a medical degree and completed a surgical residency at the University of Catania. He completed fellowships in gastrointestinal surgery and a residency in general surgery at UCSF. Certified by the Italian Board of Surgery and American Board of Surgery, he is a member of more than 25 professional societies and committees, including the American Gastroenterological Association, American Medical Association, American Surgical Association and Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons. Patti is a professor in residence of surgery at UCSF.
