Dear Survivors,

Please forgive me for sending you two emails in one day, but this info was just forwarded to me and I think some of you might find it extremely important. A journalist for the Oprah magazine is looking for your stories and I am attaching her contact info here. Thanks to Sam Vaknin for letting us all know about this situation. In case you haven’t ever connected with Sam, I highly suggest you visit his web site at http://samvak.tripod.com/ to learn even more than you ever imagined about narcissism.

In the meantime, here is the Oprah link if you wish to share your story with the journalist. Just think of the number of folks who read this magazine every month! Let’s keep this “Knowledge is power" band wagon rolling. Contact her to share your story, or the story of someone you love. And for those of you who keep asking me if I’ve ever thought about going on Oprah (Duh! I’d love to!) I wouldn’t mind if you dropped my name and my work to this reporter if you feel comfortable doing so, and if my work has helped you somehow.

I would not tell my story to Oprah. I think it would end up as a gussied up “Jerry Springer show”. they would not do it in the way it should be shown.

Even if you bend the concept inside out, the only way the “you are projecting” tactic would look like a fit is if I was into running little online cults of my own…

But isn’t this what we’ve been waiting for? On opportunity to shine some light on narcissism. Shouldn’t we take the opportunities however they arise? Should we shoot the messenger or get the info out there? I don’t know??? Would love some input from the forum cause I’m straddling the fence.

I gave my Ex-N Sam Vaknin’s book and he broke down in tears. Apparently he was wondering what the hell was wrong with him and Sam’s book gave him the answers he was looking for. I know some people don’t agree with the info presented in Malignant Self Love, I’m not sure I do either. But everytime I ask for more resources I face a brick wall!! I would love to give him more info and a different perspective. I would love to read more information myself and not just from my (woman/relationship) perspective. If this article gets more information out there shouldn’t we give it a try?

My feeling is that whatever anybody submits to this article it will just be another load of hype aimed at exploiting human misery.

Firecracker films certainly didn’t give Sam what he wanted with “Egomania” , but they didn’t paint a true, or even particularly useful picture either.

Nobody has the right to hijack an established mental disorder that real human beings are already diagnosed with and use it for their own ends…

Whether those ends amount to fame and fortune, or feeling better about their own lives…

WHAT ABOUT THE POOR SODS ALREADY DIAGNOSED WITH THE REAL THING INSTEAD???

What are they? Chopped liver?

And for what…if not to hustle a few more victims into a largely online world of alternative pseudopsychology that is mostly just a thin excuse for people to abuse, bully, control and revictimise each other.

At no point is anybody talking about Pathological Narcissism or Narcissistic Personality Disorder AT ALL…just about their subjective perception of “evil” (which, in an unacceptably high number of cases appears to amount to “not getting all my own way”) and people who are not necessarily disordered but rather moral predators…just like Sam Vaknin and most of the people he has forged tenuous, symbiotic “associations” with to control it all.

If you need to make up personality disorders a la carte…

FINE…

But make up a new name…do not steal and distort an established one.

One appearance in Oprah is worth 100 forums full with 10 years’ worth of
victims’ correspondence.

One article in O Magazine is equal to 10 such forums. Oprah rules and rocks
and what have we been doing in the lat decade? Ineffectually whining is

You hijacked the name of a real personality disorder that real people were already diagnosed with, and (after a brief, and unsuccessful, flirtation with trying to use it as an excuse for being as obnoxious as you liked whilst demanding that others respond by “kissing the boo boo”, instead of even challenging) exploited that name for your personal gain by distorting and demonising that disorder out of all recognition.

You also spend years affiliating yourself with the most abusive and exploitative people you could find to build a throughly corrupt pseudo-support network that amounts to little more than a toxic cult of re-victimisation.

I dont recall ever reading about nor getting involved in a Oprah campaign, but I’ll believe you that some people did. All I know is, I’ll watch but what effected my life for the better where this topic is concerned already happened for the most part, and whats left is just the recovery process thats time and contact-dependent.

That requires me talking to friends, therapist and other survivors…not watching a show.

Having said that, I’ll be watching.

And oh yeah…one narcissist’s evaluation of whining is just another opinion that doesnt have value for me, sorry.

If you get to be a guest and sell more books, thats great, I’m not going to begrudge you any success, God wants everyone to be happy, even N’s.

But I know myself, what I need, whats useful to me and an episode about NPD isnt really it.
